Warren Michigan – The City Council has taken a significant step forward by granting initial approval for an ordinance that will enable the establishment of the city’s first recreational marijuana retail outlets.

The council voted unanimously during Tuesday night’s meeting to approve the first reading of an ordinance permitting an unlimited number of recreational marijuana retail establishments in Michigan’s third largest city, though zoning regulations will dictate their specific locations. This ordinance will require a second reading at a future meeting before it can take effect.

The ordinance maintains existing zoning regulations for marijuana retail establishments, which are required to be situated in industrial or heavy commercial zones. Additionally, these establishments must be located at least 1000 feet away from the lot line of any school and no closer than 500 feet from residential properties, libraries, parks, and places of worship.

The ordinance is part of the city’s efforts to resolve a prolonged lawsuit concerning medical marijuana applicants.

Just make it go away.
