Year 1 of Marijuana Legalization

April 6, 2019 – It’s the weekend that marked the 48th year of the Ann Arbor Hash Bash, It is also year one of legalization.  From the Hash Bash two more successful cannabis events have spawned… one being the Monroe Street Fair which is on its 18th annual event and the Hash Bash Cup at the Wyndham Hotel.

Being the first year of legalization we certainly anticipated a huge crowd but I don’t think anyone was prepared for the number of people who attended.

Kicking off the weekend on Friday night was the 3rd annual Hash Bash Cup put together by former Hash Bash Organizer Adam L. Brook and a great team of folks.

We got there early to get a good spot to showcase the Michigan Medical Marijuana Association.

The Hash Bash Cup

At the Hash Bash Cup, entrants compete for best cannabis products including Best Flower, Best Edible, Best Concentrates and Best Topicals.

It was incredible to witness so many entrants with so many products as they were all setting their respective booths up for the weekend. It was even more incredible to see the seeming endless procession of attendees flood the Wyndham Gardens Hotel to experience one of the true wonders of Michigan during the Hash Bash Weekend.

The Monroe Street Fair 2019

Saturday morning the MMMA crew arrived and early set up our second booth over on Tappan (Non Profit Row) right off Monroe Street while watching things unfold for the Monroe Street Fair. In it’s 18th year and organized by Charlie Strackbein and a great group of folks who work really hard every year.

Just like the Hash Bash Cup there were a ton of attendees funneling in as many vendors were setting up their booths and by 10:00 am the crowd grew in size with many Michiganders as well as some attendees from out of state.

The ANN Arbor Hash Bash 2019

Around  11:00 am many folks started making their way over to the Diag for the crown jewel of the weekend’s events; The world renowned, Hash Bash of Ann Arbor Michigan which was due to start at 12pm.

Over at the diag, we got to hear Congresswoman Debbie Dingell tell us about trying to convince her late husband to try cannabis to alleviate his pain. We heard from other politicians including State Senator Jeff Irwin, State Rep. Yousef Rabhi as well as Detroit Pistons Bad Boy John Sally who is popping up in Detroit and getting into the cannabis game.

Staples in the cannabis game like Jamie Lowell, Rick Thompson, and Richard Clement got the crowd fired up and we were honored with the presence of legends like John Sinclair and Adam L. Brook.

Shout out to Nick Zettel and team for putting together a record shattering, most epic Hash Bash. It was truly overwhelming to see so many people gather peacefully in one place to celebrate, fellowship and grow.

Thanks to Adam Brook and crew for the Hash Bash Cup which turned out to be the 420th wonder of the world.

After the Hash Bash event in the diag the MMMA crew returned to the Monroe Street Fair booth and our booth at the Hash Bash Cup.
