Niles Charter Township approves 21 marijuana establishment applications

Build it and they will come…

Build it and they will come from Indiana and stay the night Michigan’s first Cannabis themed indoor water park / hotel (that’s not yet built). Because they don’t want to go home with a bunch of weed and get thrown in jail in Indiana.

Which politician and their brother are gonna build it? I want in.

Don’t forget the T-Shirt

In Niles, Michigan area, there are currently 27 cannabis dispensary locations listed on Weedmaps.  The town will become a tourist trap until the over saturation of dispensaries drives the price so low it becomes a ghost town. Especially after Indiana legalizes it or it becomes federally legal and Phillip Morris takes over.

But wait…

Nearly two dozen new marijuana dispensary licenses will be given to businesses in Niles Township. The township board approved all 21 applications at their meeting Monday night. The township did also place a moratorium on dispensary applications until 2026 because the township board wants to use these next six months to study how beneficial these new dispensaries are to economy and the community.

Residents don’t matter? Like in Goshen

It comes after many Niles Township residents came with concerns regarding the number of shops throughout the township. The public did not hold back their feelings toward the board’s decision to approve licenses for 21 marijuana dispensaries.

Akos Kovach, a Niles Charter Township resident, made his stance clear on the approval of the dispensaries. “Get the word in your mind, its a drug. Its a drug. Drug. Plain and simple,” said Kovach.

They will all be located on South 11th Street between Fulkerson and Stateline Road. One will replace the popular Hacker’s Golf and Games, and another will go in where Jay’s Lounge currently sits.

Of course it’s greed – It’s human nature

Pat Thomas, who has lived in Niles Charter Township for many years, says the number of dispensaries has gotten out of hand.

Herschel Hoese, Niles Township Trustee, voted no on a majority of the dispensaries, saying 21 is too many.

“And it’s certainly going with 22 or 25 or 50 stores. It’s a matter of greed for the township and I think it’s totally out of place,” said Hoese.

The township passed an ordinance in April allowing for an unlimited number of dispensaries along with a zoning ordinance.

May the best dispensaries survive…that’s capitalism…good luck.
